- Miðvikud. 19. maí kl. 15:15 í stofu 202 í Odda, HÍ

Miðvikudaginn 19. maí flytur Marie Novotná frá Karlsháskóla í Prag erindi sem hún nefnir „Þýtt úr fornnorrænu“.  Þar mun hún ræða hinar fjölmörgu þýðingar á norrænum bókmenntum á tékknesku. Hún mun einnig ræða sértæk vandamál við að þýða úr norrænu yfir á tékknesku, einkum meðferð sérnafna og beygingarendinga í ólíkum málkerfum.

Translating from Old Norse

In my lecture I would like to introduce Czech nordistics which can be proud of an unsually large amount of translations from Old Norse, in relation to the small number of users of the Czech language. During my presentation of the already existing translations as well as of the planned ones, I would welcome new ideas and propositions for further translatory work. In the second part of my lecture I am going go  talk  about the specific language problems  that the Czech translators have to solve when tranferring Old Norse prosaic texts  and, even in a higher degree, the eddic and scaldic poetry. At the end, I would like to open an discussion on the topics not yet satisfactorily  answered by the Czech nordistics, i.e. how to deal with Old Norse proper nouns, their endings and stem-changes in the Czech grammar system and which of the existing forms of Old Norse proper and geografical names should be used.
